Are You a Giver? You’ll Live Shorter and Worse
Through my life lessons, I’ve understood that balanced energy exchange is essential.
It ensures the continuous flow of vital energy, maintains harmony, and fosters growth.
Giving Drains
For givers, offering comes naturally. We selflessly give our time, attention, love, and material things. And most importantly, we expect nothing in return.
It sounds harmless: you give because it feels good. However, the constant act of giving has consequences — exhaustion. Not just financial emptiness but also physical and emotional depletion.
When you generously give of yourself without replenishing your energy reserves from others, you start feeling emotionally drained. Your body weakens, and illnesses creep in.
If not for an unexpected event five years ago — one that shattered my previous life and awakened me — I would probably already be resting six feet under. At 38, I felt like a chronic patient: plagued by unexplained ailments, constantly cold, perpetually tired, and irritable.
Only now do I understand that my vital energy was utterly drained at the time.
Stop Wasting It
What helped me most was deep self-awareness and emotional healing.
When I began to understand and value myself more, I realized that the energy I share is incredibly precious. It is divine energy flowing through me, and I cannot afford to waste it on things unworthy of its value.
By appreciating your energy more, you learn to distinguish between situations where your help is truly needed and those that will resolve themselves without your intervention. Moreover, if you recklessly jump in to help everyone, it’s likely that not only are you squandering your energy, but you’re also hindering others from growing and learning their lessons.
It doesn’t matter if you know the “better” way to handle the situation. Let others discover it through their own experiences.
Learn to Receive
Trust me, it’s not easy at all! At first, you might not even feel worthy of the attention or material rewards you’re offered.
The change must start in your mind. It’s important to realize that your inner energy is your currency. If you give it all away and receive nothing in return, you deplete your reserves, leaving yourself unable to enjoy good health or a prosperous life.
When you give, you must also receive something back to maintain balance and ensure fair energy exchange.
What Does Exchanging Look Like?
Suitable energy for balanced exchange includes:
- Gratitude, both to the person and the divine
- Attention
- Love
- Effort
- Joy
- Money
For example, I invest a lot of energy in writing this blog post. You, by reading it, give me your attention. If you love what you’re reading, you’d return even more energy leaving a comment, or simply thanking me in your thoughts for sharing this information.
The greatest reward, however, would be your effort to change.
By interacting in these ways, we return the vital energy we’ve received and show the universe that we value what we’re given. In return, we are granted even more energy. And if we manage it wisely, we can once again abundantly replenish our reserves.
This way, we gather vast stores of valuable energy that can be used to create our well-being.
